From June 1 through August 28, 2016, PMH proudly presented Flying Horses and Mythical Beasts: The Magical World of Carousel Animals. This exhibition was curated by local conservator and collector Lourinda Bray and featured material from the renowned Bray Collection. The collection spans the history of carousels, from the mid-19th century to modern day, with many examples from the Golden Age of Carousels, 1861-1920. Menagerie carvings, from Europe, England, the United States and Mexico, of brilliantly painted and gilded horses, lions, elephants, giraffes, sea serpents and more were shown, including the work of contemporary master carvers from the San Gabriel Valley. The Bray Collection also features carousel art, miniatures, posters and postcards, and more.
