Free Virtual Presentation

Exploring the Red Planet through History and Culture with Nick Smith

This free virtual presentation* was available for viewing Thursday, July 22 through Sunday, July 25

This summer marks the 110th anniversary of when Edgar Rice Burroughs began writing his famous series of stories that took place on a fictionalized planet Mars.

The planet Mars has long been connected to humankind through religions, literature, and science. Viewers joined Nick Smith as he explored our fascination with Earth’s neighboring planet and discovered some of the many ways Mars is part of our culture.

Presenter Nick Smith was the guest curator of PMH’s 2018 exhibition Dreaming the Universe and is the former president of Los Angeles Science Fantasy Society.
