Spread over the curves of the San Gabriel foothills, Altadena’s poppy fields and peaks were attractive to outdoor enthusiasts from the early days of Pasadena’s settlement. From trails popularized during the Great Hiking Era (1880 – 1930) to the Mount Lowe Railway, Altadena offered numerous opportunities for exploration and leisure. Explore the neighborhoods of Altadena with your guide Julia and learn about the people who built their homes and businesses here, including novelist Zane Grey, socialist Kate Crane Gartz, and abolitionist Owen Brown. You’ll also discover some of the unique and quirky places – such as Fox’s restaurant, Christmas Tree Lane, and even the Bunny Museum – that have come to define it!
