Join Los Angeles-based historian and author Becky Nicolaides for a detailed presentation on her newest book, The New Suburbia: How Diversity Remade Suburban Life in Los Angeles after 1945. The book presents a wide-ranging portrait of suburban life that contrasts with outdated portrayals by Hollywood, pundits, and the media. It draws from an extensive dataset derived from in-depth case studies across four diverse communities, including previously unpublished oral histories and interviews.

Nicolaides specializes in the history of suburbs, metro areas, and Los Angeles. She is the author of three books on suburban history, and her writing has appeared in the New York Times and Los Angeles Times, among other outlets. She served on the Los Angeles Mayor’s Office Civic Memory Working Group and is a lifelong Angeleno.

Presentation will begin at 7:00 pm; PMH Galleries will be open for viewing at 6:00 pm.
