In 1949, while the Fenyes Mansion doubled as the Finnish Consulate, Consul Y.A. “George” Paloheimo purchased a redwood structure designed by Frederick Roehrig from another Orange Grove Boulevard estate. It was moved to its current location and transformed into a traditional Finnish sauna and guesthouse. Today authentic Finnish artifacts representative of a 19th century “tupa,” or farmhouse, are on display. Presented in partnership with the Finlandia Foundation, the Finnish Folk Art Museum is the only museum of its kind in the United States.
Visits to the Finnish Folk Art Museum may be included in the docent-led tours of the Fenyes Mansion; just ask your docent for more information. The building is also open at select Museum Free Days.
